Learn About CDE's Fiber To The Home Project

What is Fiber To The Home (FTTH)?
Fiber To The Home is a communications delivery technology utilizing a fiber optic network from the information source to the end user. It provides a broadband connection that delivers information to users at tremendous speeds. CDE is building an FTTH network to improve electric system operations and provide new services called LIGHTBAND that will include digital TV, high speed Internet and phone service.

How will CDE get the fiber to my home or business?
CDE is currrently building the FTTH network to reach every CDE customer. The fiber optic cable will follow the electric wires all the way to your electric meter. The fiber optic cable will terminate inside a gray plastic box that will be mounted beside your meter.

Will I be charged on my electric bill for having the fiber run to my home or business?
No. CDE will pay for the FTTH network with revenue generated from the sale of TV, high speed Internet and phone services.

Will your services be a duplication of the cable TV and high-speed Internet services currently available in Clarksville?
No. The technology used by the current cable TV and high-speed Internet providers in Clarksville provides only a fraction of the capacity and speed that will be available through CDE's FTTH network. CDE's FTTH network will provide Clarksville with the most progressive technology available at lower prices, making current and future technology more affordable and accessible to the entire community.

What if I don't subscribe to cable TV, high-speed Internet, or either?
As a customer of CDE, you will still benefit. The CDE fiber optic network will allow us to operate much more efficiently. For example, our meters can be read electronically in the office, without having to send a CDE employee to your property. In fact, you will even be able to choose the date your electric bill is due. And if your power goes out, we might even know before you do.

How soon will I be able to subscribe to additional services such as digital TV and high speed Internet from CDE?
CDE began offering LIGHTBAND services to certain areas in December 2007 and will continue an aggressive construction schedule until every home and business has services available.
